Both sucked terribly. It seemed silly, Volvos have such a great reputation and all, but those things were total lemons! Then someone told me, "Volvos rarely fail - but when they do, they fail catastrophically!" I'd say that was my experience...Now, I have the option to buy (with a little creative financing) a '89 245 with only 150,000 miles on it. I'm thinking, this could either be great, or another total pain. All the same, it's looking like time to get something new. My current ride, a '77 Toyota P/U, is getting a little funky and doesn't feel that secure when I'm looking up at some lady chattering away on her cell phone behind the wheel of a big Escalade!
